Couples & Relationship Therapy

Relationships can bring the greatest joy to our lives or cause some of the most heartbreaking grief imaginable. They allow us to better understand ourselves, while also challenging us in ways that we never thought possible. Whether it’s a new relationship or a partner we’ve had for decades, the ever-shifting landscape of relationships make navigating the ups and downs a challenge for all of us.

Dr. Samantha Gaies takes a holistic approach to helping couples work through current and past problems by using a combination of tools. She has specialized training in the Gottman Method, uses Eastern theories that help couples remain more present, instills a greater sense of compassion and self-compassion into the relationship, and helps couples learn how to more effectively communicate with one another so each partner can feel heard and seen. This unique blend of modalities allows Dr. Gaies to help clients become connected to one another again, while assisting each individual to let go of anger and look towards a healthier and happier future.

relationship Therapy

Sometimes working on communication and intimacy happens outside of a relationship. Old wounds, fears about intimacy, past trauma, self-worth struggles, broken trust, anxiety, stress, depression, insecurities, and many other individual concerns can affect one’s ability to find or be in a functional and healthy relationship. Moreover, individuals may stay in an unhealthy relationship due to fears of being alone, feeling abandoned or rejected, or simply because external and societal pressures dictate it. Helping people learn how to effectively communicate and evaluate their current situation is paramount to having healthier interpersonal interactions.

To help individuals work through relationship and intimacy problems, Dr. Gaies focuses on helping people better understand why they choose the wrong people, push away stable partners, and self-sabotage in relationships. By using integrative methods, such as mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), interpersonal theories, and hypnotherapy, Dr. Gaies is able to offer individuals tools and techniques to better understand the reasons that previous painful experiences are holding them back from having more fulfilling relationships. She also helps individuals learn to stay more present as they learn to trust themselves and behave more authentically - whether it’s in a current relationship or as they embark on new dating ventures.
